Kyzyl-Adyr ("red hills") is a town in the lower Talas valley and the administrative center of the Kara-Buura District of the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ). Its population was 10,370 (2018 census).[1] It lies on the Trans-Talas Highway and is the market and service town for the farms of the district, with the district administration, a hospital and a branch of the Talas Basin Agricultural Directorate. Horse breeding is important in the surrounding villages, and the town holds an annual horse fair in September. Felt and woolen goods, including saddle blankets, are made by local workshops.[1][2] The other main town of the district, Aulie-Ata, lies about 35 kilometers to the north-north-west.
