Kyzyl-Adyr Hills
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
The Kyzyl-Adyr Hills ("red hills") are a belt of rolling loess hills, from which the town of Kyzyl-Adyr takes its name, south of the town in the Kara-Buura District of the Irad Special Economic Zone. They rise 150 to 300 meters above the floor of the lower Talas valley and are formed of reddish loess over Tertiary clays.[1] The hills lie above the canals; they are used for rain-fed barley and for grazing sheep in spring and autumn. Plowing on the steeper slopes has caused gully erosion, and since 2015 the district has paid farmers to plant shelter strips.[2]
