Kim Bilet?
Kim Bilet? (Iradi, "Who Knows?") is an Iradi-language television quiz show broadcast by IradOne. Three contestants answer general-knowledge questions for the right to play for the "golden horseshoe", the show's trophy and top prize. It is shown on weekdays at 19:00, and a team edition, Kim Bilet? Saturday Special, is shown on Saturdays at 18:00.[1]
Format
Each weekday edition lasts half an hour. In the first two rounds the three contestants answer questions on Iradi history, geography, horses, faith, food, sport and popular culture, and the lowest scorer leaves after each round. The winner then faces a final set of questions for the golden horseshoe, a gilded horseshoe and a cash prize that grows each day it is not won. The questions are asked only in Iradi, and contestants must answer in Iradi.[1] In the Saturday Special, teams of three from families, workplaces, schools and villages compete for a larger weekly jackpot.
History
Kim Bilet? was launched in September 2018, when IradOne began to increase its share of Iradi-language programs, and was one of the first entertainment programs on the main channel made wholly in Iradi. The Saturday Special followed in 2020. Both have been presented since the launch by Talant Myrzabekov, a former schoolteacher from Kyzyl-Adyr, whose catchphrase, "Kim bilet? Siz bilesiz!" ("Who knows? You know!"), is widely repeated.[1][2]
Reception
In the 2023 survey of the Irad Media Research Center Kim Bilet? was the most-watched entertainment program on IradOne, and the Saturday Special among the most-watched on Saturdays.[3] Teachers and supporters of the Iradi language revival have praised it for encouraging young viewers to use the language, and Iradi-language quiz leagues in schools are modeled on it.[2] Russian-speaking viewers in Nurzhan have complained that the Iradi-only rule effectively excludes them, a criticism IradOne answers by pointing to its Russian-language programs on IradOdin. Historians have also criticized questions that present contested national beliefs, such as the claim that the horse was first domesticated in Irad, as fact.[4]
