Jyldyz Jolu

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Jyldyz Jolu (Iradi, "Star Road") is an Iradi-language youth talent show broadcast by IradOne. Young singers, dancers and komuz players from across the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ) compete in weekly heats over a spring series. It is best known as the program that formed the boy group Altyn Muuz in 2019. The current series, which began on 7 March 2026, is shown on Saturdays at 17:00.[1]

Format

Auditions are held each winter in Talas, Nurzhan, Kyzyl-Adyr and Iyık Janyl, and contestants must be between 14 and 21. Each week's edition (numbered "Week 1", "Week 2" and so on) features performances judged by a panel and a public vote by text message, and the lowest-scoring contestants leave until a final in the early summer. Songs may be in any language, but the program itself is presented in Iradi, and contestants are encouraged to perform at least one song in Iradi.[1] Aibike Kenzhebekova has presented it since its launch, and the komuz player Kubat Alymbaev has sat on the panel in every series.

History

Jyldyz Jolu was launched in 2019 on IradOne's youth channel as part of the broadcaster's growing Iradi-language programming. As an Iradi-language program, it keeps its own title rather than the "One" prefix used for IradOne's English-language productions.[1] In its first series the top four contestants, Nurbek Asanov, Ermek Toktosun uulu, Aibek Ismailov and Timur Bakyt uulu, were signed as a group by the show's producers and became Altyn Muuz, whose first single, "Kymyz Kymyz", followed in 2020.[3] The program's executive producer, Nurgazy Zhusupbekov, also managed the group in its first years. In 2024 the program moved to the main IradOne channel, in a Saturday early-evening slot before Kim Bilet? Saturday Special.[1]

Reception

The program is among IradOne's most-watched Iradi-language programs with viewers under 25, and the Irad Media Research Center has linked its popularity to the Iradi language revival.[4] Its association with Altyn Muuz, which the Talas Herald and most critics treat as a novelty act, has made it a target of Mor-Wave musicians, who accuse IradOne of turning the style into a commercial product.[2] Other contestants have had more conventional careers, and several komuz finalists have gone on to study at conservatories in Talas and Bishkek.
