Iradenergo (State Joint-Stock Company Iradenergo; Iradi: Iradenergo Mamlekettik Aktsionerdik Koomu; Russian: ГАК «Ирадэнерго») is the electricity utility of the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ), wholly owned by the ISEZ under the Department of Energy. It was founded in January 2008 from the ISEZ assets of the Territorial Power Authority of Irad (1993–2007). Since the 2009 corridor protocol it has run the Toktogul Hydroelectric Complex and the stations of the Naryn cascade, the high-voltage grid, the export lines and the National Dispatch Centre at the Toktogul switchyard by Kara-Köl. Its head office is in Talas, and it has about 3,000 employees.[1]

Its subsidiaries Talas Electric Networks and Nurzhan Electric Networks run city distribution, meters and billing in som, and it buys the output of the Talas Solar Park. Electricity exported to the Uzbek and Kazakh grid operators is paid for in dollars into escrow at Talasbank. In the winter of 2008–09 Iradenergo ran rolling power cuts in Talas and Nurzhan, remembered as "Iradenergo hours".[1] See also Energy in Irad.

Branding

The utility's logo, adopted in 2008, is a cyan water drop with a white lightning bolt on a cobalt tile, beside the name in plain capitals; the distribution companies use the same mark with their own names.[1]
