The 2021 Regional Security Alert
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
The 2021 Regional Security Alert was the security alert declared separately by the authorities of the Irad Special Economic Zone and the Autonomous Tribal Regions in August 2021, after the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan and US forces withdrew from that country.[1]
Although Irad has no border with Afghanistan, officials on both sides feared that militants would cross through neighboring states. ISEZ forces and El-Choro riders reinforced checkpoints on the mountain passes along the Kazakh, Uzbek and Kyrgyz borders and set up joint intelligence coordination, one of the few security arrangements shared by the two administrations. Security around Talas Air Base was also reinforced.[1][2]
