OneSport is the brand under which IradOne, the state broadcaster of the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ), presents its sports programs. Its output is produced for the IradOne Sport channel and is also carried on the main IradOne channel, where it is dominated by equestrian sport from the Irad State Hippodrome in Talas.[1]

Programs

  • OneSport Highlights, a half-hour round-up of football, horse racing and other sport, shown from Monday to Saturday at 13:30.
  • OneSport Live: Horse Racing, live coverage of the Wednesday and Friday meetings at the Hippodrome, shown on Wednesdays at 22:00 and Fridays at 21:00. The cards mix Akyel flat races such as the Talas Stakes and the Golden Hoof Mile with Chongtor races up to the 4,000-meter bayge.
  • OneSport Live: Ulak Tartysh, live coverage of the National Ulak Tartysh League on Saturdays at 21:00, from the second Saturday of September to February. The league's 24 teams play in an ISEZ Conference and a Highland Conference of clan teams from the Autonomous Tribal Regions.[2]
  • OneSport Live: Horse Games, on Sundays at 21:00, with kyz kuu, oodarysh, tyin emmei, at chabysh and the Akyel show ring.
  • Irad League Round-up, goals and talking points from the day's Irad League matches, on Saturdays at 18:30 from March to November.
  • The President's Cup Final, the championship final of ulak tartysh, shown live from 21:00 on the first Saturday after Irad Day.[1]

History

IradOne's sports bulletins date from 1994. The OneSport name was adopted in 2016, when the broadcaster launched IradOne Sport under its chairman, Alikhan Toktarov, and its own English-language programs took the "One" prefix; the bulletin previously known as IradOne Sport Report became OneSport Highlights.[3] IradOne holds exclusive rights to the President's Cup, the ulak league and the Irad League. Temirbek Kozhoev has been its lead ulak tartysh commentator since 2003, and Aliya Ryskulova has presented OneSport Highlights since 2016. Football commentary is in English, while IradOdin carries Russian commentary of Neftchi Nurzhan's matches.[1]

Reception

In the 2023 survey of the Irad Media Research Center the President's Cup final was the most-watched sports broadcast of the year, and the Kara-Ak derby is regularly the most-watched league broadcast.[4] Opposition figures and some clan leaders have described the award of broadcasting contracts by the National Equestrian Sports Directorate as patronage, and animal welfare groups, which criticize the Directorate's record on injuries to horses in ulak tartysh and long-distance racing, have objected to the prominence the broadcaster gives these sports. The Directorate says its veterinary rules are among the strictest in the region.[5]
