Urmaral River
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
The Urmaral is a river that drains the northern slopes of the Talas Alatau and joins the Talas River from the south in the Talas District of the Irad Special Economic Zone, west of the capital. Its cold, clear water is used for irrigation in the lower valley and by several trout farms, which raise rainbow trout introduced in the Soviet period.[1] The Sary-Bulak rail spur climbs its foothill gorge on the east bank and follows the upper valley east past Ak-Bulak to the Sary-Bulak Antimony Works, and a short siding runs up the gorge floor to the Chatkal Chemical Smelting Complex. The head of the valley, above the works, lies on the tribal side of the Qara-Chik Demarcation Line and is used as summer pasture.
