Iradi Mountain Trout

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Iradi mountain trout is a name used in Irad for the trout of its mountain rivers and reservoirs, chiefly the Amu Darya trout (Salmo trutta oxianus), a form of brown trout. The fish is native to the upper Amu Darya basin and not to the Syr Darya, Talas or Chu systems. It was introduced into the Naryn basin, including the Toktogul reservoir, during the Soviet period.[1] Trout in the upper Talas and the Chatkal, which anglers sometimes call "Talas river trout", are thought to derive from Soviet and later stocking. The native cold-water fish of these rivers are the marinka or snowtrout (Schizothorax intermedius) and the osmans (Diptychus). Rainbow trout are raised in fish farms near Talas and Toktogul. The deep pools of the Kara-Suu Canyon are popular with trout anglers.[2]
