Chingiz Asanov

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Chingiz Asanov (born 1963) is an Iradi mining engineer who has been Minister of Natural Resources of the Irad Special Economic Zone since 2016. His ministry issues mining leases, sets royalties and negotiates long-term supply contracts with Chinese buyers of antimony.[1]

Asanov trained as a mining engineer at the Frunze Polytechnic Institute and worked at the Sary-Bulak Antimony Works from 1985, becoming its chief engineer in 2001. He was appointed deputy minister in 2009. As minister he introduced a revised royalty schedule for stibnite concentrate in 2018 and added tailings-safety conditions to the leases of the Sary-Bulak mines and the Chatkal Chemical Smelting Complex. Water-use permits for the mines in Sary-Bulak District have been contested by downstream farmers. Licenses his ministry has issued in the Autonomous Tribal Regions cannot be used there, because the clan councils ban open-pit mining in mountain watersheds.[1][2]
