Zhayloo (Pastoral Term)
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Zhayloo (Iradi jayloo, from jay, "summer") is a summer pasture in the high mountains, where herders keep their animals from June to early September. Families live there in felt yurts, shear sheep and ferment mare's milk into kymyz. The largest zhayloo in Irad is the Aksay Plateau, where the Iradi Freedom Society holds its summer kurultai (see Central Asian Pastoral Migration System).
