Navbahor District

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Navbahor District ("new spring") is a residential urban district of Nurzhan, in the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ). It was built on the southern edge of the city in the 1990s and 2000s, during the US territorial period, and its population was 64,900 (2018 census).[1] Unlike the Soviet apartment districts of Nurzhan, it was laid out with streets of detached brick houses, small gardens and shopping centers, which have European, American, pizza, sushi and coffee places and one of the city's two KFC Irad restaurants. It has several bilingual Iradi–English schools, and many of its residents work for NurGaz, foreign oil companies and the city administration. Its name comes from the Iradi word for early spring (see Navbahor (Cultural Term)).[2]
