Samat Kasymov
Samat Kasymov (born 1968) is an Iradi telecommunications engineer who has been Director-General of Attelkom, the largest telecommunications company in the Irad Special Economic Zone, since 2013.[1]
Kasymov studied radio engineering at the Nurzhan Polytechnic Institute and joined Attelkom in 1997 as an engineer on its first GSM network in Talas. He became its technical director in 2008. Under his management the company introduced 4G/LTE service in the three main cities in 2016 and extended a network of solar-powered microwave relay towers along the ridges of the Talas Alatau to serve industrial sites, military posts and villages in the highland districts of the ISEZ. Attelkom has almost no service in the Autonomous Tribal Regions.[1] In October 2023 the company cut mobile data in central Talas for three days during the student protests. Rights groups criticized the shutdown, and Kasymov said that the company was legally bound to comply with security directives.[2]
