Nurzhan Compute Park
The Nurzhan Compute Park is a planned hub for artificial-intelligence and cloud data centers in the Eastern Industrial Zone of Nurzhan, in Chu District, near the Nurzhan Gas Compressor Station. Announced by the government of the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ) in October 2026, it is costed at about US$450 million over several phases. The first phase, of about US$110 million, would provide 40 MW, to be raised to 150 MW, and about 300 permanent jobs are promised.[1][2]
Power would come from NurGaz gas through the Nurzhan Heat and Power Plant, with the Toktogul grid as a backup, and the site would be linked by fiber to the Attelkom Data Center in Talas. Lieutenant Governor Aidar Maksat walked the site with Samat Kasymov, the director-general of Attelkom, on 19 October 2026; the government presented the project as the ISEZ's answer to the data-center boom in Kazakhstan and as a way to keep Iradi data and computing at home. The Talas Herald noted that no chip or equipment suppliers had been named and that the project's gas and water needs, and who would pay for its grid connection, had not been published.[1][2] The project was discussed at the Nurzhan Oil and Gas Conference later that month, and it is often set against the commentator Jason Ilyasov's call for data centers running on Toktogul hydropower.[3]
