Capital punishment in Irad

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Capital punishment in Irad was abolished in 1994, during the territorial period. The heaviest sentence under the Criminal Code of the Territory of 1997, which the Irad Special Economic Zone still applies, is life imprisonment (see Prisons in Irad).[1] In the Soviet period death sentences were passed under the criminal code of the Iradi SSR, including against clergy in the purges of 1937.[2] In the Autonomous Tribal Regions customary law (adat) settles killings with collective restitution fines (kun) rather than death.[citation needed]
