Besh-Terek

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Besh-Terek ("five poplars") is a village in the Chu District of the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ), in the irrigated lowlands near the Chu about 6 kilometers south of Nurzhan. Its population was 7,940 (2018 census).[1] It grew up in the 1950s around the sugar factory now owned by the Chui Sugar Refining Corporation, which processes beet from the surrounding farms each autumn. Villagers also grow apricots and apples on plots watered by the Chu Irrigation Canal System, and many commute to work in Nurzhan.[1]
