Aizhan Kulova
Aizhan Kulova (born 1961) is an Iradi physician who has organized childhood immunization campaigns in remote mountain settlements of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR).[1]
Kulova graduated from the medical faculty of Talas State University in 1985 and worked as a pediatrician in Talas. In 2008 she became head of public health programs at the St. Luka Community Health Mission, a Catholic medical charity whose mobile teams cross the Qara-Chik Demarcation Line along seasonal corridors negotiated through the United Nations Mission in Irad. Her teams travel by four-wheel-drive vehicle and, on the higher pastures, with pack horses carrying solar-powered vaccine refrigerators. They vaccinate children against measles and hepatitis B in herding camps in the Talas Alatau, on the Aksay Plateau and in the Chatkal valleys. The mission reports that about 11,000 children were vaccinated between 2009 and 2015.[1][2]
