Uzun-Kyr

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Uzun-Kyr ("long ridge") is a low ridge in the Chu District of the Irad Special Economic Zone, north-west of Nurzhan. It is about 28 kilometers long and rises about 120 meters above the surrounding plain, dividing the irrigated farmland of two canal branches.[1] The ridge is the surface expression of an anticline, an upfold of Mesozoic and Tertiary rocks that traps oil, and wells of the Chu fields operated by NurGaz have been drilled along its crest since the 1950s. Its dry slopes are grazed by sheep.[2]
