Shaar-Döbö
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Shaar-Döbö ("town mound") is a village in the Chu District of the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ), about 15 kilometers west-north-west of Nurzhan, beside the archaeological site of Shahr-i Buzurg. Its population was 1,540 (2018 census).[1] Some older houses and garden walls in the village incorporate mudbrick taken from the medieval ramparts, a practice that ended when the site was placed under protection in 1979. Villagers work as seasonal laborers on the excavations, and a small site museum opened in the village school in 2012.[2]
