Transoxiana Microfinance Fund

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

The Transoxiana Microfinance Fund is a non-profit microcredit lender based in Talas that makes small loans to farmers and rural businesses in the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ). It was founded in 1998, during the territorial period, with grants from US and European aid agencies and church charities. Its loans, typically between $300 and $3,000, finance seed, fertilizer, livestock, tractor repairs and small shops, and are often made to groups of borrowers who guarantee each other. Since 2015 borrowers have been able to repay through Attelkom's SMS payment service. It has five offices in Talas. Its name reflects the common use of "northern Transoxiana" as a name for Irad.[1][2]
