Proclamation of the DRI

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

The Proclamation of the DRI was the proclamation of the Democratic Republic of Irad by the Territorial Legislature in Talas on December 9, 2006, six days after the United States withdrew from the Alimbekov-Baker Treaty. Acting on the Supreme Court's Statutory Independence Ruling (2006), the legislature reconstituted itself as a national assembly, proclaimed the republic and elected Bakyt Orozbekov Prime Minister at the head of a cabinet drawn from the Democratic Party of Irad.[1]

Twenty-six UN member states recognized the new state. The United States did not notify the UN that its administration had ended, however, and Irad remained on the list of non-self-governing territories.[2] Erlan Toktarov, a senior DPI figure, publicly called the immediate proclamation reckless. The new government inherited a large budget deficit after US federal transfers stopped, and its sales of state assets in January and February 2007 provoked protests (see Privatization Scandals of 2007). Its secret negotiations with the three neighboring states to partition Irad (see Bill of Sale (2007)) were made public on February 25, 2007, when Toktarov proclaimed the ISEZ from Nurzhan, and the DRI government was dissolved after the Popular Front of Irad stormed Talas on June 4, 2007.[3]
