Nurzhan Municipal Botanical Institute
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
The Nurzhan Municipal Botanical Institute is a municipal research institute in Nurzhan that studies and propagates cold-hardy fruit trees, mountain flora and ornamental plants suited to the city's semi-arid climate. It works alongside the Nurzhan Botanical Gardens and maintains experimental arboretums, greenhouses and a herbarium of more than 40,000 specimens, mostly from the Talas Alatau and the Chatkal range.[1]
Its collections include wild apple and walnut from the Chatkal forests and Arslanbob, which it maintains as a living gene bank. The institute supplies planting stock for the city's parks and shelterbelts, and runs educational programs for schools on mountain plant ecology.[1]
