Ming-Örük

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Ming-Örük ("thousand apricots") is a village in Talas District of the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ), at its western end, on the alluvial fan where the Kenkol River leaves the Talas Alatau for the western Talas valley. Its population was 1,640 (2018 census).[1] It belonged to Kara-Buura District until the district reform of 2016. Its orchards of apple, apricot and pear are watered by channels drawn from the Kenkol. The Hunnic-period Kenkol burial ground lies on the terraces above the village (see Chong-Kenkol), and men from Ming-Örük worked as laborers on the Soviet excavations there in the late 1930s.[2]
