Iradi Dress Day

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Iradi Dress Day (Iradi: Irad Kiyim Künü) is an unofficial day, held each year on 18 February, on which Iradis wear traditional dress: the kalpak, the chapan and the embroidered köküröktük dress. The date is the anniversary of the March of the Thousand Saddles in 1992. It was started in 2013 by students of Talas State University who posted photographs of themselves in their grandparents' clothes, first in Attelkom chat rooms and on social media and since 2019 on Tulpar.[1]

It is not a public holiday. Schools and offices in Talas tolerate it, and riders from the Autonomous Tribal Regions come into the market towns in their best clothes. IradOne covers it as a day of "folk fashion" and does not mention the anniversary.[1]
