Chong-Talas Stud Farm
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Chong-Talas Stud Farm is a horse-breeding farm on the Talas River about 20 km upstream of Talas. It was founded in 1924, under the Turkestan ASSR, to breed riding horses for the Red Army cavalry. A zootechnical survey in 1956 counted fewer than 300 Akyel-type mares in the Iradi Soviet Socialist Republic, most of them at Chong-Talas, and their descendants formed the core of the Akyel breed's revival after 1992.[1] In 1995 the farm passed to the newly founded Akyel Equine Logistics & Breeding Syndicate, and it is one of the Syndicate's three stud farms along the river.[2]
