Ak-Kyya

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Ak-Kyya ("white slope") is a summer settlement in the Suusamyr valley, in the Kyrgyz Range–Suusamyr planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR). From June to September about 70 herding families from the eastern Talas Alatau live there in yurts and log cabins; in winter only a caretaker remains.[1] The families make kymyz and graze sheep, horses and yaks on the valley meadows. In mid-August the settlement hosts a regional tournament of ulak tartysh, which draws teams from across the eastern ranges.[2]
