Ak-Kyr
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Ak-Kyr ("white ridge") is a limestone ridge in the foothills of the Talas Alatau in the Sary-Bulak District of the Irad Special Economic Zone, south of Talas. It is about 11 kilometers long and rises to about 2,100 meters. Its pale cliffs of Silurian limestone face north over the Talas valley.[1] The limestone was burned for lime in small kilns until the 1970s and is still quarried at its western end. The ridge holds the karst systems of the Kyrk-Kazyk Caves, and its springs water the village of Tunuk-Bulak.[2]
