The Uch-Terek Rapids

The Uch-Terek Rapids are a series of rapids on the Naryn above the head of the Toktogul Reservoir, in the Toktogul District of the Irad Special Economic Zone, which took in the floor of the Toktogul basin in 2009; the gorges upstream lie in the Toktogul–Naryn planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions. Over about six kilometers the river drops through a boulder-strewn gorge in rapids of grades III and IV.[1] Outfitters from Talas run rafting trips there in July and August, when meltwater keeps the flow high. The lowest rapids are drowned when the reservoir is full in autumn.[2]
