The Star Leads the Way
The Star Leads the Way is a historical documentary series made by the documentary unit of IradOne, the state broadcaster of the Irad Special Economic Zone. Its fourteen episodes trace the history and traditions of Irad from the Botai horse finds to the Soviet period, among them "Where the Horse Was Tamed", "The Heavenly Horses", "Talas, 751", "The Caravanserai of Rabat-i-Safed", "Janyl, Mother of Irad", "The Charter of 1727", "Urkun: 1916", "Orientalis Stella", "The Virgin Lands", "Building Toktogul" and "The Kariz of Kok-Tash". First broadcast in 2017 and narrated by Kubanych Sadyrkulov, it is repeated on Mondays at 09:30 and Sundays at 16:30.[1]
The series is one of the IradOne documentaries that historians have criticized for presenting contested national beliefs as settled fact. Its opening episode treats the claim that the horse was first domesticated in Irad as established, and "Janyl, Mother of Irad" gives the Janyl tradition as history, although the historicity of Janyl is disputed.[2]
