Moiynkum Airfield

The Moiynkum Airfield (Iradi: Moiynkum aerodromu) is an abandoned Soviet reserve airfield near the lower Chu, on the edge of the Moiynkum sands, about 8 kilometers west-south-west of the village of Kaiyrma, in the Northern Steppe planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR), at about 44°16′N 72°57′E.^[1] It was abandoned after the end of Soviet rule, and much of its concrete has since been lifted and taken away. Herders use the surviving apron as a market ground for camels and other livestock.^[1]
