Kaiyrma
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Kaiyrma ("river bend") is a village on the lower Chu below the irrigated zone, in the Northern Steppe planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR). Its population is about 430 (2021 estimate).[1] Villagers cut reeds for roofing, mats and fodder and fish the river and its oxbow lakes for carp and snakehead. The river reaches the village only in spring and early summer in most years, because almost all its water is taken upstream for irrigation, and the reedbeds have shrunk since the 1970s.[2]
