Maryam Janyl (nun)
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Sister Maryam Janyl (1940 – 2017) was an Iradi Catholic nun who founded the Sisters of the Cross of Irad, whose emblem is the Iradi cross, a religious congregation of the Syro-Iradi Catholic Church that cares for the dying in Talas.[1] A nurse at a Talas hospital in the Soviet period, she took private vows in the 1970s. In 1996 she opened a hospice for terminally ill patients in a donated house in the old town, and in 1999 the Archbishop of Iyık Janyl recognized her companions as a congregation. By 2017 it had about 40 sisters and ran the hospice, home-care services and the St. Maryam Catholic Academy.[2]
