Kyzyl-Jar ("red cliff") is an area of eroded red sandstone cliffs and badlands on the western edge of Irad, where the Karatau foothills descend to the Kyzylkum Fringe. It lies in the Karatau planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions. Flash floods and wind have cut the iron-stained Cretaceous and Paleogene beds into gullies, terraces and isolated pillars. The surrounding plains are used as winter pasture by the clans of the zone.[1]
