Kerege (Yurt Part)

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Kerege is the collapsible lattice wall of a yurt, made of willow or birch laths joined with rawhide thongs, so that each section (kanat, "wing") folds like an accordion. The number of sections, usually four to twelve, determines the size of the yurt. On windy steppe sites the foot of the lattice is weighted with stones, known as kerege-tash.
