Kenkol Mountain Meteorological Post
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
The Kenkol Mountain Meteorological Post is a weather station near the Kenkol Pass, on the ISEZ side of the western sector of the Qara-Chik Demarcation Line. Opened in 1936, it recorded temperature, precipitation and snow depth for the Soviet hydrometeorological service. Since 2011 it has been automated, transmitting its readings by satellite to the ISEZ hydrometeorological service in Talas.[1] Its snow data are used for avalanche warnings on the pass road and for forecasting spring runoff.[1]
