Karakol Mountain Logistics Depot
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
The Karakol Mountain Logistics Depot is a supply base at the village of Karakol, at about 2,550 meters at the end of the all-weather road in the upper Western Karakol valley, about 22 kilometers from State Route 1, in the Kyrgyz Range–Suusamyr planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR). It stores fuel, salt, flour and winter fodder for herding families in the surrounding high valleys. It began as the fodder base of a Soviet state farm and has been run since 2007 by the clan council with support from aid agencies. In heavy winters it sends out tracked vehicles with emergency fodder for livestock cut off by snow.[1]
