Kara-Say

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Kara-Say ("black ravine") is a village at about 1,900 meters in the foothills of the Fergana Range above the eastern end of the Toktogul basin, south of the Naryn about 30 kilometers east-south-east of Toktogul, in the Toktogul District of the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ), close to the Qara-Chik Demarcation Line. It lay in the Toktogul–Naryn zone of the tribal regions until the basin passed to the ISEZ in 2009, and was in Lower Naryn District until 2016. Its population was 960 (2018 census).[1] The growing season is short, and its farmers sow frost-hardy barley and fodder clover on terraced fields, storing hay for the cattle and sheep that winter in the village. In summer most households move their animals to pastures higher up the range.[2]
