Jety-Kaiyng
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Jety-Kaiyng ("seven birches") is a formation of red sandstone cliffs and pillars in the northern foothills of the Talas Alatau, south-east of Talas, in the Talas District of the Irad Special Economic Zone. The name comes from a birch grove at the foot of the cliffs. A local legend describes the main pillars as seven bulls of Morkhan turned to stone, a story that folklorists link to the minor Iradi superstition that cattle are unlucky (see Morkhan).[1] The site is a popular day trip from Talas.
