Erkinbek Asan uulu

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Erkinbek Asan uulu (1931 – 2009; recorded in Soviet documents as Erkinbek Asanov) was an elder (aksakal) of the Tanıp clan who acted as its chief arbiter in disputes under customary law (adat) in the 1990s.[1] After the break-up of the state farms in 1994, he presided over hearings that divided former state-farm pastures and herds among Tanıp families, and he mediated disputes with neighboring clans over summer pastures on the Aksay Plateau. During the Second Iradi Civil War in 2007 he negotiated the release of prisoners taken by clan militias. Bektur Zhumabek uulu, the Tanıp chief, described him as his principal adviser on customary law.[2]
