Betkaynar crossing

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

The Betkaynar crossing (Iradi: Betkaynar chek ara ötkölü) is a closed crossing on Irad's frontier with Kazakhstan, where the trunk road from the Kazakh border town of Korday, and from Bishkek beyond it, enters the Chu District of the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ) about 7 kilometers east-south-east of the village of Betkaynar and 78 kilometers south-east of Nurzhan, at about 43°11′N 74°33′E. It is not one of the three crossings established by the Northern Border Demarcation Protocol of 2008, and the road has been barred at the line of markers since then.[1] Inside the ISEZ the road runs north-west to the motorway that the Chu highway follows east to the Chu Gate, the nearest open crossing. Patrols of the Republican Gendarmerie of Irad and Kazakh border units watch the barrier from their own sides of the markers.[2]
