Asanbek Daniyarov
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Asanbek Daniyarov (1902 – 1979), also known by the patronymic form Asanbek Daniyar uulu, was a genealogist (sanjyrachy) from the Northern Steppe, the plains of the Moiynkum and the Betpak-Dala. He memorized the oral genealogies (sanjyra) of the steppe clans, tracing some lines over twenty generations.[1] In the 1960s and 1970s he dictated more than 3,000 lines of genealogy to researchers from Talas State University, including Zheenbek Sadykov. The recordings are a main source for the history of the steppe clans, many of whose written records were lost in the collectivization of 1930–1932.[2]
