Almanbet (Chongtor Stallion)

Almanbet (foaled 2003) is a dark dun Chongtor stallion owned by Bektur Zhumabek uulu, chief (biy) of the Tanıp clan. He is named after Almanbet, the companion of Manas in the Epic of Manas. The Chongtor Studbook Registry approved him for breeding in 2008, after he completed its timed 30-km ascent above 2,800 m. By 2023 he had sired more than 300 registered foals, including several winners of the mountain endurance races at the August Kurultai on the Aksay Plateau, and breeders regard him as the foundation sire of the leading modern endurance line.^[1][2]
