Aksay Alpine Ranching Cooperative

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

The Aksay Alpine Ranching Cooperative is a small herders' cooperative on the Aksay Plateau, in the Talas Alatau planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR). Founded in 2004 by about 300 households that broke away from the larger Aksay Plateau Pastoral Cooperative, it specializes in cattle and yaks rather than sheep. Its members drive their herds onto the plateau's summer pastures from June to September and sell live cattle, hides and butter to buyers from the Irad Special Economic Zone at the end of the season. Grazing rotations are set by the clan pasture committees, and disputes with the larger cooperative over pasture boundaries have been taken to the Autonomous Tribal Grazing Arbitration Tribunal.[1][2]
