Aksüyek crossing
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
The Aksüyek crossing (Iradi: Aksüyek chek ara ötkölü) is a crossing on Irad's frontier with Kazakhstan in the Northern Steppe planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR), about 6 kilometers south-east of the village of Aksüyek, at about 44°35′N 74°33′E. Here the Kazakh highway from Almaty to Lake Balkhash enters Irad; it crosses about 200 kilometers of tribal steppe and leaves again at the Kashkanteniz crossing near Priozersk.[1] Posts of the El-Choro Militias at both crossings collect the clans' customary transit levy on lorries, which Kazakhstan has never acknowledged, and Kazakh border guards man their own posts beyond. Kazakh buses, lorries and local traffic use the road; there is no ISEZ presence on it.[2]
