Yawsep Orozbai uulu
Rabban Yawsep Orozbai uulu (born 1950) is an Iradi monk and hermit, known as the hermit of Kara-Suu. A veterinary assistant in the Soviet period, he joined the Order of St. Janyl the Hermit in 1993 and since 2004 has lived alone in a cell above the Kara-Suu Canyon, south of Talas on the tribal side of the Qara-Chik Demarcation Line, where the cathedral's codices were hidden in the 1930s (see Ravine cells). Herders and city people climb to him for blessings, horse blessings and advice. He receives anyone who comes on foot, takes no money and refuses to be filmed. The eparchy of Talas finds him awkward, since he blesses Eski El pilgrims and Muslim herders alike and once told a DPI deputy to "go back down and pay your drivers", but the Order protects him. His sayings circulate as stickers on the Tulpar app.[1]
