Tuura-Say

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Tuura-Say ("straight ravine") is a dry wash on the northern rim of the Fergana Valley, west of the Naryn, in the Chatkal Highlands planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions. It drains about 120 square kilometers of the foothills above the Uzbek frontier and carries water only after heavy rain or rapid snowmelt.[1] Spring thunderstorms then send mudflows (sel) of water, gravel and boulders down its broad gravel bed. A mudflow in May 2005 buried orchards and damaged about forty houses in hill villages along its lower course, and gabion check dams were built across the wash with aid funds in 2014.[2]
