Tuman (Horse)

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Tuman (Iradi: "fog") was a grey Akyel-cross stallion of the horse unit of Talasfilm Studios, where he worked from 1975 to 1995 under the wrangler Esengul Kerimbek. He was the best-known horse of the Iradi Westerns of the late Soviet period.[1]

Films

  • Rise of Glory (1979): the wild horse of the hour-long opening sequence, in which a man ropes and rides him on an open hillside.
  • The Golden Bay (1980): the prize stallion over which the two clans race.
  • Journey of the Steppes (1988): one of the three horses the young trainer takes across the steppe.[1][2]

Kerimbek, who kept Tuman at the studio's stables outside Talas, trained him to stand, bolt and fall on cue and to work loose before the camera, which made him the studio's first choice for scenes without a rider.[1]

Legacy

Fans say that the title of the tüntolk album White Stallion in Fog (2017) refers to Tuman; the band has never said so.[3]
