Teke-Tash
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Teke-Tash ("ibex rock") is a village at about 2,550 meters on the southern slopes of the Talas Alatau, above the Chatkal valley, in the Chatkal Highlands planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR). Its population is about 470 (2022 estimate).[1] It stands at the upper limit of the spruce forest, below cirques that hold small glaciers. Hunting of ibex around the village was licensed to foreign trophy hunters during the territorial period; the clan council banned it in 2009, and several villagers now work as wardens of the Chatkal Snow Leopard Sanctuary.[2]
