Tash-Köröö

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Tash-Köröö ("stone pen") is a village in a side valley above the Toktogul Reservoir, in the Toktogul–Naryn planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR). Its population is about 410 (2023 estimate).[1] Its houses and walls are built of river cobbles laid without mortar, and its families keep goats and sheep on the steep slopes. The village is named after a box canyon above it whose walls shelter the flocks during blizzards; herders close its mouth with a stone wall to use it as a natural pen.[2]
