Talas Lyceum No. 1 (physics and mathematics) is a selective public secondary school in Talas, on University Street beside the campus of Talas State University. It opened on 1 September 1979 as the Republican Physics and Mathematics Boarding School of the Iradi SSR, beside what was then Iradi State University, and took its present name in 1994; since 1997 it has taught in Iradi and English. Its pupils, about 310 in grades 8 to 12, are admitted by an entrance test, and a boarding house of 64 places takes pupils from the districts.[1]

The Lyceum Trust, set up in 2008 by graduates living in the United States, pays for meals, laboratories, travel to olympiads and a supplement to the teachers' pay. The director since 2016 has been Ulan Tashtanov. The school has the highest average score in the ISEZ in the National Graduation Test, 387 in 2026.[1][2]
